Exceptional load transport is subject to authorisation for convoys whose dimensions exceed the following criteria

ATTENTION for certain destinations, permanent authorisation may be issued with technical escort depending on the type of road

However, even when the above dimensions are not exceeded, it is still within the power of the road owner to require police escorts for the entire route or only for small sections where it is advisable to do so in the interests of safety or traffic flow.

TIMETABLE RESTRICTIONS It is forbidden to circulate from 12 noon on Saturday or the day before the holiday, until Monday or the dawn of the day after the holiday on certain national and/or regional roads. On the other hand, for motorways, a calendar of road traffic restrictions is drawn up each year, with a fixed ban on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Certain transports may be authorised to circulate at night, in certain large conurbations and/or because of their size.

Documents required for the issue of Italian authorisations

Certificate of insurance in which the following are mentioned

Number of the insurance policy for damage to property or persons with a ceiling of €4,000,000.00;

Validity of the insurance policy (cannot be less than 3 months after the day of transport);

The registrations of the vehicles that will carry out the transport;

That the vehicles are also covered when circulating with exceptional transport.

Powers of attorney: on the carrier’s letterhead (attached models); these must be sent in original;

Declaration of liability: this must also be transmitted in original;

Order form/consignment note specifying the nature of the goods, their dimensions, places of loading and unloading;

Copy of the booklets;

Vehicle data sheet: This data sheet must be established by the vehicle manufacturer. This document must be written in Italian, with the manufacturer’s stamp and signature. This signature must be authenticated either by a notary public, the mayor’s office or another authority. The data sheet must be submitted in original;

Coupling document indicating that the registered tractor can be coupled to the registered semi-trailer (model attached). The latter must be submitted in its original form.
